FEST07 (http://www.nxtgenug.net/fest07), the one-day Developer event organised by those NxtGen Boyz: Rich, Dave and John, is just around the corner.

It’s on May 23rd at Microsoft UK in Reading and the headline speaker is the outstanding Rafal Lukawiecki who has topped the polls at TechEd for the last 7 years. He’s speaking twice and will be talking about Vista Security and Future Trends in Software Architecture. The other speakers are look pretty good too, with Oliver Sturm, Mike Taulty and Daniel Moth being joined by Lorna Brown of Microsoft Research which should be a really interesting session. The Boyz are also going to do one of their ‘gameshows’ as a finale in which I understand large amounts of ‘swag’ will be handed out.

If you are a member of NxtGenUG its a free event. If you’re not a member its a measly £59.99 for a day of information, fun, food and of course ‘swag’. It’s not a Microsoft funded event, and the guys have to cover some costs of speakers and incidentals. To register just go the NxtGenUG site http://nxtgenug.net/fest07, its all pretty simple. Sessions received before 0001 on Saturday 28th will be accepted; anything received after that (i.e. over the remainder of the weekend) will be subject to further discussion/approval.

DDD5, 30th June 2007: session submissions are well underway! It’s great to see that there are a handful of Scottish folks who have submitted sessions. Hoots!

We’re still keen to get some more GrokTalks – short 10 minute sessions about a topic of your choice.

DDD5 Call For Speakers is now open!

If you’re interested in speaking at DDD5 on June 30th this year, submit your session proposals here.

The Grok Talks were so well-liked at DDD4, we’re spending some time making them better (we listened to all the feedback previous attendees gave us!) Grok Talks need only last 10-20 minutes – I’ll post details of how to sign up for the Grok Talks asap.

What’s FEST07 all about?
It’s all about “Into The Future …”. We’ll start the day in the present, looking at Vista, and then we’ll jump forward a few months to take a look at LINQ, a great and innovative new technology from Microsoft. We jump ahead further in the afternoon, a year or so, with a look at how Dynamic Languages such as Iron Python are being brought into the .NET world, and finally we’ll end up seeing how the home of the future might look in a few years time …

We’ll end the day with one of NxtGenUG’s renowned ‘game show’ sessions where the differences between learning, fun, ‘swag’ and chaos become somewhat blurred …

It’s also about taking time out to get our heads above the parapet, get away for a day, learn some different stuff, smell the roses, eat some pizza, get some ‘swag’ and meet some friendly, like-minded people at a great venue.
