{"id":706,"date":"2007-09-28T13:55:47","date_gmt":"2007-09-28T12:55:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.craigmurphy.com\/blog\/?p=706"},"modified":"2007-09-28T22:42:44","modified_gmt":"2007-09-28T21:42:44","slug":"do-apple-iphone-users-who-have-unlocked-their-phones-deserve-to-be-locked-out","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.craigmurphy.com\/blog\/?p=706","title":{"rendered":"Do Apple iPhone users who have unlocked their phones deserve to be locked out?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/1\/hi\/technology\/7017660.stm\">Recent press<\/a> has confirmed that <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/1\/hi\/technology\/7011772.stm\">Apple&#8217;s threat <\/a>to disable iPhones that have been unlocked appears to have come true.<\/p>\n<p>The Guardian&#8217;s article title is rather amusing: <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.guardian.co.uk\/technology\/2007\/09\/28\/apple_bricks_some_hacked_iphones.html\">Apple bricks some hacked iPhones<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Gizmodo has a good piece about it <a href=\"http:\/\/gizmodo.com\/gadgets\/apple\/iphone-firmware-111-is-out-now-testing-for-unlocked-iphones-bricking-%5Bupdate-it-doesnt-brick-it%5D-304497.php\">here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Twitter has gone wild with folks reporting problems, not just with hacked &#8216;Phones but with <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/spaley\/statuses\/297894012\">regular unhacked devices<\/a> too.  And even <a href=\"http:\/\/scobleizer.com\/2007\/09\/27\/apple-has-a-pr-nightmare-brewing\/\">Robert Scoble&#8217;s <\/a>son is having problems.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Do you think iPhone users who unlocked their devices deserve to be locked out?<\/strong>  I suppose it *is* breach of contract and Apple are simply enforcing that contract&#8230;after all, I guess AT&#038;T have a legal position on this too.
