Despite having nothing more than WordPress 1.5.2’s default comment spam protection enabled, I enjoyed many months where my posts received no comment spam.
Until yesterday. Until Barry wrote this. Coincidence? I think not, I’m sure Barry’s not a spammer!
Anyway, I’ve now installed and configured Dr.Dave’s [anti] comment spam tool, Spam Karma 2.
It looks very comprehensive and has received a lot of good feedback. I’ll let you know how I get on.
Nice link, Craig. I’ve just installed it too.

Took both of you long enough! I told you about this way back in June ;-).
You should also look at:
Bad Behaviour
CJD Spam Nuke
and if you’re running Apache then this one is really good at blocking Trackback bots:
Mod-Rewrite Trackback Spam Blocker
I’ve been running all of these since the beginning of June and have only had a couple of SPAM comments in all that time, all of which were caught and moderated. That spammers have been totally unsuccessful in getting their junk onto any of my WordPress blogs.
It did take me long enough, however the problem wasn’t there to warrant a solution! Only when the problem came back did I need to go to the market and see what was there!
This is interesting…since deployment of SK2, and since it has stopped over 230 spams getting through, this last week has been very very quiet…I wonder if these spammers know to back off when their efforts fail?
I do like the idea of Bad Behaviour, I might look into deploying that too. Thanks for the heads up John (and you know that I’m running IIS!!).
Someone else below asked this already about antispam scripts.
I am getting nailed with Spam on my website mails and in our blog website – now its offline too much spam. Is there anyway to stop this? If not, there really isn’t any point in leaving it up and active. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for help, Keep up the good work. Greetings from Poland
you need to try out SpamKarma2 from Dave, its really good for spam junk, helped me to get rid of it on my Blogs. tested also Akismet but it didnt worked as good as Spamkarma2.
Good work – good idea – thanks very much.
